As we move into warmer weather in the southeastern region, it begins to wake up our lawns from their winter rest. A few tips on mowing your lawn for the spring.
.) Mow frequently, at least every 7 days.
.) Make sure your blade is sharp. A dull blade does not make a clean cut, but tears the blade of grass leaving it more vulnerable disease and decline.
.) Do not cut too much off at one time. A good rule of thumb is to remove no more than 1/3 of the height of the grass in any one mowing.
.) Change directions...do not always mow the same pattern. Changing directions keeps your turf on its feet, and prevents rutting and wear.
.) Do not mow in the heat of the day, mowing early in the morning, or later in the afternoon is less stressful on your turf and will minimize any discoloration from mowing.
